Dorset Button Making
Learn how to transform a ring into a Cartwheel-style Dorset button
Service Description
Come and explore the heritage craft of making Dorset Buttons, once a major cottage industry in the South of England. Alke will show you how you can turn a simple ring into a button, brooch or even earring, armed with just a tapestry needle and some thread. While traditionally linen thread was used, this is a great way to play with leftover embroidery thread or even yarn, ending with some colourful creations. In this workshop, we will cover both the classic Cartwheel and the slightly more advanced Spiral (or Ammonite) design. All materials will be provided and all attendees will receive a 10% discount on any purchase at The Threadery on the class day.
